Photo London 2024 is drawing closer, with its ninth edition opening at Somerset House in a month’s time. It will be a busy and exciting week for Karen Knorr who will be exhibiting with Sundaram Tagore Gallery at the fair as well as in the group exhibition Fields of Vision at Cromwell Place.
Across the two sites she will be exhibiting works from the brand new series Scavi and recent editions to India Song. There will be a number of events celebrating the work of Karen Knorr, including an open studio, book signings and drinks at Sundaram Tagore’s gallery space at Cromwell Place – further details below. Alongside these presentations, Photo London will also see the launch of two new monographs showcasing important early works from the 1980s to the early 2000s, Connoisseurs & Academies published by Kehrer and Country Life published by Stanley/Barker.

Karen Knorr will open the doors to her London studio during Photo London. On display will be a selection of works from Academies, Gentlemen and India Song. If you would like to join please RSVP to thom@thombridge.com
Meanwhile, Artist Dafna Talmor will also be opening up her neighbouring studio, together with Sid Motion Gallery. On view will be a number of works from Constructed Landscapes, in which Talmor takes negatives from her personal archive as its starting point, to produce reconfigured and abstracted representations of landscape.

Book Signing with Kehrer

Karen Knorr will be signing copies of her newly published Connoisseurs & Academies. Photographed between 1986 and 2005 with an analog camera, her images let us venture into the intricate world of the history of museums and stately homes, of objects, paintings, connoisseurship, and the structures of academies. The use of animals as an allegorical motif is today embedded in Knorr’s practice, but they first appear in Connoisseurs, where a chimpanzee becomes the Genius of the Place.

Karen Knorr will be signing copies of Country Life, published by Stanley/Barker at Offprint. The monograph explores attitudes within the British aristocracy in the 1990s through image and text. Knorr’s refined images were taken in London, Scotland and Oxfordshire in domestic interiors and gardens laid out according to the picturesque canons of the eighteenth century.
