2pm in Lecture Theatre A – RPS Women in Photography Inaugural Lecture
London College of Communication is delighted to welcome Professor Karen Knorr to deliver the Royal Photographic Society Inaugural Women in Photography Lecture. In the lecture, RPS Honorary Chair Karen Knorr FRPS will contextualise her recent work in relation to documentary practice produced by women in the UK since the 1980s. She will highlight and discuss the strong presence of contemporary female photographers and their legacy in the recent history of photography. Karen will be in conversation with Anna Fox after the lecture followed by a short break before the panel discussion.
4.30pm in Lecture Theatre C – Expanded Documentary and Storytelling in Contemporary Photographic Practice
A panel discussion to mark the occasion of the Women in Photography inaugural lecture, featuring Poulomi Basu, Natasha Caruana, Anna Fox, Charan Singh and Val Williams, chaired by Max Houghton.
The panel will discuss the changing aesthetic and technological strategies employed by contemporary photographic practitioners and curators, in order to enrich their documentary practice. Can technologies such as VR attract new audiences to photo exhibitions and make it more inclusive? Do audiences increasingly demand an immersive experience, or is it still enough just to look? Will photography take a different form in the age of Trump and Brexit? What new forms of storytelling may emerge?
The event is free and open to all but you will need to book your place through Eventbrite.
