Auction and Print Sale For Chiswick House & Gardens Trust

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, Chiswick House & Gardens have seen a 60% reduction in income. To off-set the deficit, an auction is planned as the culmination of #welovechiswickhouse campaign which aims to raise £120,000 over 120 days by the end of the summer. Art works include donations from Chiswick residents Sir Peter Blake and Marthe Armitage and Karen Knorr.

Karen Knorr is delighted to be donating ‘Contemplation of the Essential Forms’ a signed work photographed in Chiswick House, as part of a series of 17 large scale Cibachrome photographs Karen completed in 1986 alluding to received ideas of beauty and taste in British culture. Titled Connoisseurs, the series was also shot at five locations: Osterley House, Sir John Soane’s Museum, Dulwich Picture Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum as well as Chiswick House.

Fox Talbot Retrospective in Italy

The first major William Henry Fox Talbot retrospective in Italy ‘L’IMPRONTA DEL REALE’ opens this week at Gallerie Estensi Modena in collaboration with FMAV – Fondazione Modena Arti Visive. Curated by Silvia Urbini and Chiara Dall’Olio, the exhibition includes two key works by Karen Knorr from the series Academies (1994–2005). Other artists include the Italian photography pioneers Paolo Gioli and Mario Cresci.

Masculinities at the Barbican Reopens and Summer Update

Karen Knorr continues helping to support charities such as Support in Mind (Scotland) and Artist Support Pledge initiative giving back to artists and to Artist Support Pledge itself to help it develop further projects supporting the art community.

These last weeks Karen has been working on more images from her India Song series completing a further two with two white tigers which she photographed in animal sanctuaries in India. As she puts it on her instagram account @karen1knorr “I have been working on of this ‘Hall of Mirrors’ in Amer Fort. Last January. It took two hours attempting to get the shot without the use of tripod no main feat with crowds pushing. I must have held my breath to steady the shot and later tried to imagine a tiger’s breath which is also a yoga position called prana breathing where one has to be performed on all fours.”Masculinities Reopens to the Public at the Barbican in London

Academies Print Available To Support Charity Support in Mind Scotland

Studies for Mind Charity Sale of Photography

Studies in Photography have organised a sale of photographs to raise money for the charity Support in Mind Scotland who work to improve the wellbeing and quality of life of people affected by serious mental illness including family members, carers and supporters.

Priced at £50 each (+P&P), prints are available from a number of photographers including Susan Derges, David Eustace, Karen Knorr, Garry Fabian Miller, Tom Hunter, Sekai Machache, Wendy McMurdo, Callum Colvin, Margaret Mitchell and many many more! Produced as A4 giclée prints on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper in an unlimited edition, these prints are only available for one month with 100% of the proceeds going to the charity Support Mind Scotland. Connoisseurs Print Available To Support Two Charities

During this crisis it is easy to acknowledge that working from home and lockdown can and does cause stress and hardship of varying levels. Imagine then what it must mean for those who have no home or those for whom home is an unsafe space.

Covid-19 takes no hostages and right now the charities Crisis and Refuge are working hard to support the people in our society who have no home and who are the victims of domestic abuse, for whom this virus has made their situations so much worse.

Artist Sian Bonnell, Artist/Printer Charlie Meecham and Producer Tracy Marshall – members of arts collective TRACE – have harnessed the energy, generosity and goodwill of their photography friends & colleagues to produce an online art fair offering affordable work by international photographers in aid of the two charities.

Punks Print Available With Profits Going To The Trussell Trust

Inspired by the monumental success of the Italian 100 Fotografi per Bergamo initiative and the New York-based Pictures for Elmhurst, Photographs for The Trussell Trust are getting together a photographic print sale fundraiser here in the UK.

100% of the profits will go towards the Trussell Trust, which provides support to 2/3 of the food banks nationwide, helping those who have been largely affected by the economic and social crisis as a consequence of the Covid-19 health emergency.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a swift and devastating impact on the ability of vulnerable people to access sufficient food. Three weeks into lockdown, The Food Foundation said that 1.5 million Britons reported not eating for a whole day because they had no money or access to food.

Food banks have seen 300% increase in footfall compared to this time last year and desperately need our support in this time of social crisis.

COVID-19 Update From Karen Knorr Studio

Karen Knorr is busy in her London studio at home teaching online and supporting A MANIFESTO FOR INCREASED INVOLVEMENT OF WOMEN IN PHOTOGRAPHY which recently appeared in the FT Weekend Magazine.

She has also joined the online community of artists #artistsupportpledge who pledge to supporting one another in solidarity through the sale of limited edtion works for under £200 and will be participating in a charity auction organised by BlankWhiteSpace which will see proceeds going to Global Giving’s Coronavirus relief fund and Meals for the NHS. As an advocate for women in photography Karen Knorr Studio is proud to support the newly published m anifesto written by Fast Forward for the increased involvement of women in photography and encourages you to sign and share it too.

Fast Forward is calling for:

A step change for all arts organisations and institutions to commit to exhibiting, commissioning, publishing and collecting at least 50% women’s work.
Inclusivity leading to all arts events and activities to address a minimum of 50% of women’s interests and stories.
The education system to recognise and value women artists and photographers, and the role they play in society, in their curricula at every level of the system and to provide equal opportunities for female artists and photographers to take part and enrich their curricula.

Photographers Anna Fox and Karen Knorr sit in conversation with Sabina Jaskot-Gill, Curator of Photographs at the National Portrait Gallery. The discussion will explore the aesthetic questions and socio-political issues broached by two important series of work presented in our current exhibition Masculinities: Knorr’s Gentlemen (1981–83) and Fox’s My Mother’s Cupboards and My Father’s Words (2000).
